Soetdoring is a tough and heavy wood. It is white to slightly yellowish in colour. It is an excellent and valuable source of firewood and is used in the manufacturing of charcoal.
It burns brightly, with very little smoke and no odour. It splits easily and once dried does not absorb moisture from the atmosphere. It has calcium oxalate crystals that give its embers high temperatures and makes them long-lasting. These clean burning traits are ideal for use in cooking, pizza ovens, wood stoves and fireplaces.
Soetdoring is a pioneering species prone to be responsible for bush encroachment in grasslands and farming land in South Africa. It may thus be detrimental to grass production because of the competition for soil moisture between grass and trees. Decreasing the livestock carrying capacity of grassland.
